Glover is the daughter of Judi Glover and Roger Glover, bass player in Deep Purple.
She was born in Windsor, England and moved to US at the age of 7, as few years after her parents divorced, with her American-born mother. She attended New York University and studied Painting and Pyschology. She also studied for a short time at SACI Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy at the age of 19.
After graduating from NYU in 1998 she travelled for 18 months, mostly in the Middle East. She eventually returned to the UK in 2000 and has resided in London since this time. She lives with bass player and fellow bandmate, Travis Porter, and has a son, Xavier, born in 2009 and a daughter, Aranea, born in 2011.
The first professional recording featuring Gillian Glover was Roger Glover’s solo album Snapshot in 2002 (Bargain Basement – lead vocals). Over her first months living in London around the same time, Glover stayed for a short time with Alonza Bevan of Kula Shaker and sang on a couple of his demos. It was a turning point for her, never really having considered writing and singing professionally before this time. Glover joined the band Beat:Root in 2001 and wrote and played with them for the next 8 years.
In summer 2005, Gillian recorded several solo demos at the behest of friend, Tom Wilcox. Other notable musicians rounded up by Wilcox to work with Gillian included Rod Melvin (pianist, Kilburn & The Highroads) and Woody Woodmansey (drummer, David Bowie and the Spiders from Mars). From those demos was spawned an ongoing project that culminated in the release of Glover’s debut solo album Red Handed in 2007. She promoted this album with small tours in the UK, France and Switzerland.
Glover is due to release her second album, Still Life With Music, in early 2013.
